1. Rallies and Demonstrations at the State Capitol Complex in Augusta

19.12.17 Nobody Is Above the Law Rally in Augusta

Over 100 central Maine citizens gathered in front of the Maine State Capitol Building at 5:30 pm on December 17, 2019 to demand the impeachment of Donald Trump. Standing on the sidewalk bordering State Street in a driving snow storm, well bundled activists displayed signs and chanted "This is what Democracy looks like", a slogan from the Occupy Movement.
On the night before the U.S. House of Representatives votes to impeach Donald Trump for his high crimes and misdemeanors, over 100 central Maine citizens gathered at the Maine State House as part of the nationwide “Nobody Is Above the Law” rallies. The rally in Augusta was one of the hundreds of actions occurring nationwide in more than 40 states and Washington, D.C.
The mobilization is part of a massive, grassroots effort to ensure Congress holds Donald Trump accountable for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections. Congress must show that no one—including the criminal in the White House—is above the law.
Prior to the rally, I shot the lights of downtown Augusta and took photos of the labor mural by Judy Taylor, of Tremont, that hangs in the lobby of the State Cultural Building. Reichsstatthalter LePage had the labor mural removed from the Labor Department walls. Blending the murals and the live action photos demonstrates our long history of citizen activism.
