18.06.30 Demonstration Against Family Separation at State House
Mass protests against Donald Trump and his immigration policies were held across the US on Saturday. As large parts of the country sweltered beneath a heatwave, marchers braved the blistering sun to express fierce opposition to the president’s policy of separating undocumented immigrant families at the southern border. In Augusta, a Demonstration Against Family Separation at State House was held on June 30, 2018 with over 1,000 Mainers in attendance.
Gathering under shade trees in front of the State House and bordering State Street, Maine families listened to Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Zak Ringelstein, former gubernatorial candidate Betsy Sweet and others speak out against family separation. Passing automobiles honked in support as demonstrators lined both sides of State Street.
