12.09.12 Todd Gitlin at Colby College in Waterville, Maine
After the protest against Robert E. Diamond, Jr., Occupy Augusta citizens went to a talk in the Diamond Building by Todd Gitlin, professor of journalism and sociology at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and former SDS President. Gitlin was at Colby in support of his new book, "Occupy Nation", but he also took the opportunity to weigh in on Colby's continued support of financial mobster, Robert E. Diamond, Jr. "The great collapse of the world economy was brought about by people like Bob Diamond, who paid no penalty. I think that's a moral shame," Gitlin said. "It's not an image that should be radiating before students at Colby College. I don't think it's exemplary."
Occupy Augusta citizen Jane Edwards wrote "I was disappointed that the speaker last night did not talk MORE about whether Occupy would continue, and make a difference. I had hoped to hear a thorough analysis of that. His description of the history was very good, though."
