21.05.08 Peace Vigil at GD/BIW in Bath
Fourteen Maine peace activists attended the Peace Vigil at GD/BIW in Bath on May 8, 2021 under a cloudy sky with temps in the 50s. Cynthia Howard unveiled her new banner featuring a quote from Noam Chomsky. After gathering at 11:45 AM, the peace activists marched from the GD/BIW Administration building to the middle employee gate. The large number of shift workers reflected the hiring boom at GD/BIW. As has been happening lately, some departing workers took the leaflet from Maureen of Smilin' Trees Disarmament Farm and made positive comments.
The peace activists marched back to the GD/BIW administration building and held a closing circle of forgiveness and renewal. Maureen of Smilin' Trees Disarmament Farm, one of the organizers of this Plowshares vigil announced that a Peace Vigil will be held May 15 at 11:45 AM at GD/BIW.
Plowshares activists were the first to hold at vigils at GD/BIW. Amongst the various activists arrested at GD/BIW over the last 25 years was Father Philip Francis Berrigan.
