21.03.27 Lenten Peace Vigil at GD/BIW in Bath
Eighteen Maine peace activists attended the Lenten Peace Vigil at GD/BIW in Bath on March 27, 2021 under a partially clouded sky with temps in the 40s.
Arriving late, The Maine Paparazzi joined the peace activists at the middle gate where workers had already left the Saturday morning shift. The peace activists marched back to the GD/BIW administration building and held a closing circle of forgiveness and renewal. Old-timers spoke of the beginning of Plowshares actions at BIW over 31 years ago. The actions of Father Phil Berrigan and other Plowshares activists led to the creation of the Lent and Advent Peace Vigils. Bruce Gagnon warned of the impending launching of six naval weapons of war within the next year. He encouraged Mainers to hold peace vigils at GD/BIW during the summer and fall.
