1. Peace Vigils at General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine

15.03.28 Lenten Vigil at GD/BIW in Bath

Global Network hosts a weekly Peace Vigil on Saturday at 11:30 AM during Lent outside the gates of the General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works shipyard in Bath.
George Kehoe-Ostensen wrote,
Magic moments happen every time we least expect it. This time, it came in the smiling face of the BIW security guard who has for 15 years interacted with us at these Disarmament/Peace Vigils. He was on duty when the Aegis Plowshares peace activists witnessed on the USS Gettysburg on Easter Sunday in 1991. But this snowy Saturday he comes up and shows me a Valentine that my son gave him on on Ash Wednesday in 2002. He had kept it all these years on his wall at home and wanted to thank us for giving it to him.
During these Lenten Vigils we have been leafletting the workers at the noon shift change on Saturdays and have given out over 75 leaflets. How many will save them, and how the simple reflection that we need to move away from building warships to something that promotes life will affect them, we will never know. But the fact that 13 years ago a Valentine given out was saved and brought back with a smile is something truly magical and makes it all worthwhile.
Rejoice in all ways. Love and peace from Smilin' Trees Disarmament Farm.
