15.05.20 Marijuana Legalization Legislative Hearing

The Maine Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety held a Legislative Hearing to legalize the possession of recreational marijuana on May 20, 2015 at the State House. LD 1380, sponsored by Rep. Diane Russell (D-Portland), and LD 1401, sponsored by Rep. Mark Dion (D-Portland), would end marijuana prohibition in Maine and replace it with a system in which marijuana is regulated similarly to alcohol. Both proposals would make it legal for adults 21 years of age and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and grow a limited amount of marijuana in their homes.
