17.10.12 Peace Garden at MOFGA/CGCF
Besides being one of the coordinators of the Social and Political Action area at the MOFGA/CGCF, I am also a member of the Fair Steering Committee. This committee meets once a month at the CGCF/MOFGA office in Unity. Arriving early for the October meeting, I decided to search for the elusive Peace Garden on the CGCF grounds.
The Peace Garden is located just inside the north gate before the South Orchard Gardens. The layout is in the shape of a peace sign, but has recently become known as the Bee Pollinator Garden. When created, a youth group by the name of Peace Jam was supposed to maintain the garden. Youth groups come and go, and as such the responsibility for maintaining the Peace Garden fell to the Exhibit Hall coordinator.
Maine peace groups should start considering how they can become involved in maintaining and further developing the peace garden at CGCF grounds.
