19.08.28 Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
Due to health problems, I have not been down to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens since the summer of 2016. Got down this year during the last week of summer. The color was incredible, bees and butterflies were abuzz and I was able to find a couple of private places to refresh myself.
After 16 years of planning, planting and building begun in 1991 by mid-coast Maine residents who founded the grassroots organization, the grand opening of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens was celebrated on June 13, 2007. Besides flora and fauna, the 295 acre garden on an ocean inlet features permanent pieces of sculpture and art exhibits.
Open from to mid-April to the end of October, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is located on Barters Island Road in Boothbay, about ten miles from Route 1 in mid-coast Maine.
Gardens Aglow is put on display during the evening hours from late November to December 31.
