13.09.14 MassCann/NORML Boston Freedom Rally on the Common
Bill Downing of MassCann said:
In 2013, as has been so for 24 years, the Boston Freedom Rally drew crowds of patriots reaffirming their right to be free from unreasonable governmental intrusion by purposefully, publically breaking a law that allows such intrusions. Former Massachusetts resident and author Henry David Thoreau wrote a now famous essay On Civil Disobedience, where he outlined a new method for coercing a recalcitrant political body. Brave souls can oppose unjust laws by throwing their bodies into the gears through arrest, rather than acquiesce. What bravery! What patriotism! We, at the Freedom Rally, are the ones who care enough for America and for the American freedoms we all hold so dearly to burst from our closets with no shame, no hesitation and let the police, the politicians, Mom and Dad, the boss, the mayor, the governor, the president and the whole world know – “I smoke pot and I like it a lot!” (David Peel) Those who participate in the Boston Freedom Rally, this year as always, turn Boston Common into the home of the truly brave and the home of the truly free for one weekend every year. Boston Common is the first place in the known universe where freedom of assembly and expression were guaranteed. Our patriotism drives us to our duty to maintain freedom on Boston Common.
Chuck U of No Censorship Radio has posted the following audio report which features Roger Leisner and Diane Russell of Maine.
